THE FAMILY MOTTO
Your Family Motto
Have you ever wondered what your legacy will be? Maybe it's not WHAT you do but WHO you raise and HOW you spend your time with those you love most.
We want you and your family over the next 6 weeks to create a family motto, and we will walk you through how to do it step-by-step. By the end of the 6th week, you will have a motto unique to your family that will show WHO your family really is. It will explain why you do the things you do as a family, what you want to be known for.
*Please be sure to complete the family playbook before creating your family motto*
Week 1: Review weeks 1-5 of the family play book
Over dinner this week, sit down as a family and go through what you learn from the family playbook, weeks 1 - 5. What did you find interesting or surprising? What did you discuss on those weeks that you think would be valuable to include when creating your family motto? Write it down to reference later!
Below is a review of the playbook and the topics discussed each week. There are bullet points including questions to really focus on as you start preparing to make your family motto.
Week 2: Review weeks 6-10 of the family play book
Over dinner this week, sit down as a family and go through what you learn from the family playbook, weeks 6 - 10. What did you find interesting or surprising? What did you discuss on those weeks that you think would be valuable to include when creating your family motto? Write it down to reference later!

Week 3: Self Discovery
You are a part of a whole, but you cannot be whole without all the individual parts! Take this week for a bit of self-discovery. Taking into account all the topics that you discuss from the playbook, take this week to really brainstorm YOURSELVES as individuals. Take some time away from the dinner table to write down what you care about, what you want your family to stand for, what you think is most important to include in your family motto. Then, bring those ideas to the dinner table this week and discuss. Don’t forget to take notes as a whole!
This week, revisit all your notes from the past 3 weeks and discuss all that you have talked about and marked as important for your family as a whole. Narrow down your list created to 10- 20 words for phrases you feel are most important and describe your family the best. You will use these next week to write your motto!
Week 4: Narrow it down!
This is the week! We are going to create your motto. You started out with pages of notes, but your hard work last week picking out the most important words and phrases will help you to take this to the finish line! As a family and taking into account all that you discussed and learned about each other this past week, put pen to paper and create a motto that you feel describes WHO and WHAT your family is all about. This will be unique to your family, and something you should be proud to tell others about!
Week 5: Create your family motto!
After you have constructed a motto for your family, your last task is to create some way to display it. Make it easily seen and create something together. Maybe you will frame it and hang it by your dinner table, or have it displayed above your door? The possibilities are endless. Make it a habit to revisit your motto and appreciate not only all the hard work you put in to create it, but the wonderful people you have around you who helped you create it!
