Start a Holiday Tradition with Family

The Christmas season is upon us and it’s the most wonderful time of year to start new traditions with your family. Choose something that will bring life to your family and announce it in a BIG way!! Start by sharing what a tradition is and telling your family you want to do this new activity for many years to come!

To help you get started with the best tradition for your crew, we’ve created a list of ideas.

Go find the best displays of Christmas lights!

Hot tip: sometimes Google maps will have an additional “layer” for your city that highlights the best spots to see lights. Search for the neighborhood near your home and take a walk or a car ride to pick out your family’s favorite lights.

Read a holiday book with your kids each night!

Hot tip: There are so many great lists of Christmas books online. Here are a few of our favorite lists:

Do a random act of kindness as a family!

Drop an envelope of cash on the porch of a family you know is in need. Bake cookies for elderly neighbors. Volunteer in your town. Teach your kids by example what it means to love and serve others.

Pray for the families in your Christmas cards!

Choose one Christmas card a night and pray over that specific family so you can be intentional about your prayers. Place the card back into the basket and choose a new card the next night.

We hope you enjoy creating memories with your family during this holiday season and experience traditions year after year!

Need some inspiration on how to increase your time outside?

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  1. Get your friends involved – Everything is better with family and friends! You can head to the pool, have a BBQ, or plan a camping trip to increase your time outside while spending time with the people you love.

  2. Head to a new place – Why not use this as an opportunity to do a little adventuring? You could check out a new hiking trail, road trip to the beach, or find an interesting, walkable city near you.

  3. Play a sport – Sports are a fun and easy way to get moving and get outside. This could even be an opportunity to start a family kickball tournament!
